Hull College of Architecture - Project Budget Circa £1.5m

Energy Building Ltd was appointed by our associates Vic Coupland & ICB to provide Dynamic Thermal Modelling and a Commercial EPC for the unique glazed mono-pitched headquarters of Hull College of Architecture. The glazed mono-pitch had historically presented issues in terms of Solar Gains and the unmanageable internal temperatures which would subsequently follow during the warmer months. The client wished to determine if replacing the glazing with solar control glass and introducing new passive ventilation grilles above replaced external glazing would have any affect on the maximum ambient internal temperatures. Our study showed that with a few tweaks to the design, summer indoor temperatures could be brought down by an average of around 3°C and the refurbishment works was green lit.
